Painting it Pink

Director: Lau Zautsen
In an attempt to get closer to their parents, Lau Zautsen examines their mother’s postnatal depression and the strenuous relationship with their dad. In this poetic documentary, archive footage from the family past is interlaced with performative reconstructions.
How can you get as close as possible to the stories from your parents’ and your own past? Reconstructing memories from shortly after his birth, Lau hopes they will better understand their parents. How did their mother cope with their postnatal depression, and why is the relationship with their dad so troubled? This short, experimental documentary provides insight into how vulnerable, inconsistent and subjective family stories can be. Videos from the family archive and some performative contributions make clear: The past is constantly on the move.
