Compilation of historical footage of the Netherlands East Indies in the early 20th century.
Compilation of historical footage of the Netherlands East Indies in the early 20th century. The tinted images make up a travelogue, giving an impression of the beauty, the treasures, the inhabitants and the culture of the former Dutch colony. Following scenes of the arrival of Europeans in the port of Jakarta, a journey begins that leads us along the old town of Batavia, the industrious life along the Tjiliwong River, a girls' school, etc. Using paternalistic language - `here, we show you the sweetest darkies' -, the titles comment on the images.
