Over the years, the Dutch rivers have proved to be an inexhaustible source for filmmakers who thus depicted the modernisation of the Netherlands in the past century. Filmmakers from all years were inspired by the water and paid tribute to the beauty of the river landscape. Images by famous filmmakers like Joris Ivens, Bert Haanstra, Herman van der Horst and Jan Wouter van Reijen, but also by amateur filmmakers, were compiled in an impressive special of TV series Andere Tijden.
