Film with surprising twists begins with a diary entry by the filmmaker. He realises that from when he was six he has equipped every interior in black-and-white. Silently, he sits in various establishments, while in the voice-over he tells about the history of piano makers Steinway & Sons. Next, he makes inquiries about the price of a new Steinway, before we hear the first sounds of Chopin's Piano Concerto No.1 in E minor, Op. 11.
