After an extensive freshly cooked breakfast, the serene Hong Sun Hui takes her frolicking daughter to school. At that time, the sun has not even appeared on the horizon. Along the way, they sing a song about the monstrous Americans. Hong continues on her way along swept streets flanked by huge buildings to a textile factory. Her assignment for that day: to produce one hundred and fifty coats. All mistakes are registered in notebooks. Meanwhile, the leader Kim Jong II is worshipped everywhere and sung of via poor sound equipment. Filmmaker Pieter Fleury deliberately filmed under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. By choosing to leave out all comment, Fleury effectively depicts the oppressive system of indoctrination, control and self-criticism. But the images of a lesson by a dynamic teacher of English serve as a gleam of hope.
