Look into a horse’s eyes and find intelligence and sensitivity. This experimental documentary from the perspective of a horse wonders: If they are animals, what are we?
In this film, the director visualises the experience of ‘the other’, at the same time sensing this can never really be conveyed to the viewer. No Horses on Mars is the product of intensive research and observations of the behaviour, hearing, perception and brain function of horses. A short documentary with fictional elements, this is the direct sequel to De Visser’s Het dier dat dus ik ben (2019), in which the director introduced The Animal Gaze. This film adopts this criticism of a world view that gives man centre stage, and shows the world through a horse’s eyes.
