The demented Hidde does not remember the way home. Looking for something familiar, the boundaries between past and present fade and he ends up at the location of a childhood trauma.
The psychological graduation film Nevel brings to life the world as it is experienced by the 75-year-old Hidde. Hidde suffers from Alzheimer’s, which is why the world around him perplexes him. When he starts looking for his deceased father, Hidde ends up in a reality where past and present merge. This takes him back to memories of when he was still young and often had to take care of his alcoholic father, back to the key moments of his life-long, bottled-up trauma.
