Nao 't Zuuje

Director: Rob Hodselmans
Becoming Prince Carnival: the ambition of many a true-born Limburger. In this documentary, ten revellers explain why carnival is so important in the south of the country and in Venlo in particular.
On the eve of carnival, also called ‘vastelaovend’ in the southern Dutch province of Limburg, Lex Uiting is finally appointed Prince Carnival in Venlo. The titel is a great honour, every inhabitant of Limburg knows. Prins Lex Uiting is the central figure in this colourful documentary about ten ‘vastelaovend’ revellers. Their personal stories show the impact and significance of an age-old tradition. For jigging and carousing birds of different feathers, this is an outlet as well as a moment of self-reflection, against a backdrop of merrymaking, melancholy and unadulterated emotion.
