In 2014, a Syrian family in the Netherlands lost their youngest daughter in the Mediterranean Sea. Batoul Karbijha investigates what exactly happened to her sister in her gripping documentary about loss, doubt and hope.
The sister of the Syrian filmmaker Batoul Karbijha, who lives in the Netherlands, disappeared when she tried to cross the Mediterranean Sea as a refugee in 2014. In this personal and heart-breaking documentary, Karbijha travels to the location, where she is confronted with a labyrinth of ignorance, indifference and impotence. At the same time, her quest sparks a confrontation with her family. For years, they have been unable to talk about Maysoon. My Maysoon captures an intimate family process in which loss, grief and hope alternate.
