Directing début by Ronald Beer about a family from the Dutch East Indies that finds itself in a cold working class district of The Hague in 1961. Each member of the family tries to adapt to Dutch society, but the culture gap is only really shown when the mother turns a bicycle shed into a successful Indonesian restaurant. What starts as innocent jibes by the locals escalates into a violent conflict.
