A so-called family documentary in five parts. An observing camera follows a young family, the husband of which is regularly on sickness benefit. In the first episode, we see how 33-year-old dockworker John, being dissatisfied with his job, suffers from vague physical and mental symptoms and is on sick pay. On a company doctor's advice, he goes back to work, but his motivation is lacking. This has its repercussions on the family and particularly on his wife Gerda. In the third part, tensions run so high that John and Gerda decide to break up as good friends.
