Portrait of a 'black' school in Amsterdam West. For almost a year, filmmaker Barbara den Uyl followed events at the secondary school where she once taught twenty years ago. At that time most pupils were white, now 90% are from the immigrant community. The documentary sketches in two parts a picture of the lower and upper classes of the school. In part one, a group of the least able 13-year-olds is followed. The film focuses on a teacher who tries to solve problems individually and a pupil who is often absent. The second part concentrates on the older pupils and shows that problems at school can often be traced back to the pupils' cultural background.
