Social drama based on the book Betrayal from 1936 by the socialist writer A.M. de Jong. In the Catholic countryside of the Province of Brabant, the friendship between Merijntje and the poacher Kruik takes a fatal turn when Merijntje is to blame for Kruik killing the frontier guard and stabbing his beloved Janekee. The film was shot in a specially-built studio Filmstad. The author played the role of the priest.
