As a child, Nelly wanted to have the blonde locks her Barbie had. But that’s impossible for a Cape Verdian-Dutch gal like her. Now that she is an adult, she examines where her aversion to her frizzy hair comes from.
Like many other women with frizzy hair, Nelly has been styling her hair with chemicals for as long as she remembers. This defrizzing often gave her burns, but she had rather have that than her own hair. Now, she is 34 years old and she can’t even remember what her own hair looks like. InLiever kroes, she undergoes the transition to her natural looks and examines the origin of her aversion to her fuzzy hair. A personal, emotional portrait of a young, black woman in search of self-acceptance
