Liefde voor de Heer

Director: Raymond Bouwman
Klaas Vos summarises things very well in the opening scene of Liefde voor de Heer: he used to be a preacher, came out of the closet, and thought that would also put an end to his faith. 'But apparently He thought differently', Vos says with a discreet smile on his lips. Some thirty years after his abandonment, he returns as a minister in the Brabant village of Ossendrecht, near the Belgian border. Amazing, since in his renegade years, when he was known as a sports commentator and radio maker for VPRO, he used to say that 'we should give back Brabant to Belgium.' Filmmaker Raymond Bouwman follows Vos in the build-up to his consecration, speaks with his friends (including Rimko Haanstra), but mainly allows the striking protagonist to tell his story. About his short-lived career as a preacher in the 1980s, about his marriage that fell apart once he embraced his homosexual proclivity, but also about his love of the pop band Pet Shop Boys.
