In a series of twelve episodes, filmmaker Heddy Honigmann looks for the meaning of the adage 'The way to the heart is through the stomach'. For this purpose, she asked twelve people to cook their favourite dish before the camera. While they are cooking, they tell anecdotes and Honigmann elicits statements about the connection between food and eroticism. In Een sjtetl die niet meer bestaat Honigmann's mother Sonia shows her how to prepare Yiddish vrennekes, the way she learnt to do it from her mother. The art of cooking also has everything to do with details, as Sonia subtly demonstrates.
