French-spoken political drama about the dangerous life of a dissident in Algeria. The satirical columns by journalist Sahafi lead to several attacks on his life. As a Speaker of the Truth, he refuses to bow to political intimidation by the Islamic Jihad. At the moment when two pistols are pointed at his head in an alleyway, time stands still in the film to create two worlds in which Sahafi might have lived. One is a threatened existence as journalist in his home country, where the totalitarian regime tries to silence intellectuals, journalists and artists. The other possibility is a life as a refugee in Holland, where he is confronted with the insensitive interrogation of civil servants and the endless wait for a decision on his asylum request.
