Lemons fall starts with images of completely deserted streets in a saddening Spanish suburb. The blistering heat, manifested by the sharp shadows, is emphasised by the harrowing and grating score. Suddenly, around a corner, an exhausted heat-stricken man appears, carrying two bags of lemons. In a sequence that builds to a close-up, his suffering reaches a climax: then, lemons fall from his bag.
