There are only two systems that can learn: living systems and computers. The information technologist and philosopher Prof. Dr. Pieter Adriaans feels at home in both fields. And he combines his love of music, art and technology with his investigation into the principles of learning. He is also of the opinion that machines can develop themselves. In doing so, they learn how to exploit data already stored, to analyse it, find patterns and then make new links.
