Documentary about the life and work of the Dutch sculptor Mari Andriessen (1897-1979). The film focuses on his nine war memorials, commissioned by various municipalities. Using these monuments, of which Amsterdam's Docker is undoubtedly the best known, the documentary aims to provide an insight into the personality of the artist and the development of his work. Kunst en verzet (Art and Resistance) shows how Andriessen's experiences during the war were reflected in his monuments and looks at his wrestling with the concept of 'resistance'. The artist's sons, a friend and sculptor and an art historian are interviewed. Sections from an interview with Andriessen are also included.
