Topical portrait of a Dutch UN soldier. A film crew followed 23-years-old Arjen van Sante before and after his stay in the Bosnian province of Sebrenica. During Van Sante's six month absence, the film-makers stayed in close contact with this family and girlfriend in Holland. The young soldier described his experiences in a diary and filmed his surroundings with an 8-mm camera. KPL 701112078 uses interviews, diary, old family films and material shot in former Yugoslava to show how a young man brought up in sheltered surroundings looks after himself in a bloody civil war. The documentary also shows what it means for a soldier to adapt to ordered Dutch society after his return from a theatre of war.
