De Overkant uses archive footage and acted scenes to show the memories of a man about his brother's birth. While his mother was having the baby in hospital, little Anton stayed with his uncle across the river. In the distance, thick plumes of smoke reveal the location of the Botlek industrial area. The ominous ticking of the clock is a precursor to a national disaster.
