Peter de Baan's sequel to Retour Den Haag is a two-part TV series, adapted from the book by Ad van Liempt and Ger van Westing. Again having historical political facts as its starting point, the series focuses on the power struggle taking place in the late nineties, when the first female Minister of Justice Winnie Sorgdrager, as one of her major appointments, made her fellow party member Arthur Doctors van Leeuwen the new Attorney General. As highest-ranking Public Prosecutor, Doctors van Leeuwen demanded total independence, but the minister wanted to keep hold of the final responsibility. Partly due to the problems surrounding Desi Bouterse and the aftermath of the Lancé case, the police officer who had been falsely accused of sexual abuse, the power conflict between the politician and the Public Prosecutor escalates. Still, mutual respect and affection is maintained. So, the director wondered: Is this love?
