Portrait of the Dutch-Surinamese jazz singer Denise Jannah. In January 1995, watched by the entire Dutch music press, Denise Jannah signed a contract for the renowned American jazz label Blue Note. After this event, Jannah's international career really took off, after a modest start in 1992. Director Hans Hylkema followed the musical life of this talented vocalist for a year. His documentary shows Jannah recording her first Blue Note album in New York and provides an impression of her successful performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague. A year after her rise to the jazz premier division, Denise Jannah is an established name in the Dutch music world.
