Documentary about Wim Hazeu, the biographer of writer Simon Vestdijk. The film-maker followed Hazeu during his five-year quest for details from the life of Vestdijk. The film focusses on Hazeu's investigation of Vestdijk's relationship with his housekeeper Ans Koster and his lover Henriëtte van Eyk. He distills the details from conversations with e.g. Theun de Vries and Mieke Vestdijk and the 800 letters that Vestdijk wrote to his lover. The documentary mainly tries to find out what is happening in the head of the biographer. The camera follows him as he visits locations, films him during his encounters and records his lonely hours as he peruses letters and books in an attempt to reach some consensus from the contradictory sources.
