In een vreemd land

Director: Kim Landstra
Documentary follows three juvenile African asylum seekers waiting for their applications for a residence permit to be handled in the Netherlands. The boys live in a small home where they are learning to be independent. Bernard is from Congo, torn apart by civil war. He has been in Middelburg for three months. Toni is an ex-child soldier from Sudan. He has been promised temporary residence and appeals the decision. Pedro finally is also from Sudan. His application for asylum has been rejected because they believe he is lying about his origins. The boys learn Dutch, cook and make friends. But it is also difficult to live without parents in a strange country. They often have nightmares and headaches and are constantly aware of the uncertainty about whether they can stay or will have to return to their home country.
