In 1967 it was inconceivable that an unmarried girl of 17 could raise a child. The family was the cornerstone of society and everything that could undermine this undisputed certainty had to be hushed up or silenced. When the writer Will van Sebille (now 47) had a child 30 years ago, there was only one answer: give it up and stop thinking about it. Recent research reveals that she wasn't the only one: more than 25.000 women were forced to give away illegitimate children in the sixties and seventies.
