Until shortly before his death, director Van de Sande Bakhuyzen worked on the editing of this film, which had its première posthumously. The adaptation of Ronald Giphart's partly autobiographical novel revolves around the young writer Giph (Tijn Docter) and his laborious relationships with two women: his girlfriend Samarinde (Carice van Houten) and his mother (Catherine ten Bruggencate). While Giph and Samarinde enjoy the sun among a quick-witted group of friends at a commercial-like location, he looks back on the collapse of their relationship in flashback, from uncomplicated sex to growing emotional alienation. The sun-drenched locations contrast with the situation at his critically ill mother's house, whom he is unable to tell his real feelings. Featuring a star-studded cast in the supporting roles and a camera that sometimes dives into the crowd (and shakes and sees double when Giph loses himself in a bad trip among his friends) and at other times quietly observes the situation.
