Film report and portrait of the odd Dutchman Quirijn, who does not live life, but observes it. Through his eyes, this film questions our hyper-materialistic, ultra-technological society.
Quirijn, today a happy unemployed man in Berlin, is what until the 19th century we would call a tramp: someone without a profession, permanent residence or means of existence. He wants nothing to do with the mainsprings of our capitalist society. Instead of money in the bank, a career or sex, to him a nice cup of coffee comes closest to a purpose in life. How can someone get out of bed without any ambitions or a clear plan? Quirijn shows us how — keeping away from modern technology is a must to him: no cellphone, computer, or e-mail. But travelling is fine.
