Documentary portrait of a group of friends from the criminal underworld of East Amsterdam. The documentary focuses on the three old mates Demolition Jan, Fat Bob and Red Jos. The camera tracked this trio for five months. Director Roy Dames followed them at very close range and turned I'm Jan into a realistic inside story about people who want to get their lives back on the rails but all too often fail. The individual conversations provide an insight into the thoughts and expectations of the men who are often confronted with crime, probation, divorce and unemployment.
