I didn't get into Berghain but I did meet Vica

Director: Evan Frijters
When Vica fled Ukraine, she left her childhood there unresolved. Now, drifting through Europe as a young adult, she finds herself stuck somewhere between childhood and adulthood.

When Russia invades Ukraine, Victoria – or Vica for short – flees to Berlin. There, she numbs her trauma with drugs and the chaos of nightlife. She also meets filmmaker Evan Frijters, who decides to make his graduation film about her. He follows Vica as she seeks peace in a remote village in England and travels with her back to her hometown of Odesa. In confronting her unresolved youth, Vica hopes to rediscover a sense of home – but once again, the war disrupts her plans.

This film is part of the NFF Studentencompetitie and nominated for the VPRO-documentaireprijs 2025. The winner will be announced on Monday, September 29th, during the Talent Awards Ceremony at the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht.
