For decades, Lous Hoogendijk-De Jong has not taken one step outdoors. What initially seems quite common – a woman watching TV with her cat - gradually turns into an oppressive reality where housemate Holocaust is omnipresent.
Under the motto ‘the war as a housemate’, daughter and filmmaker Oeke Hoogendijk explores the underlying reason for her mother’s refusal to leave the house. A refusal that Lous Hoogendijk-De Jong has been successfully prolonging for decades. She attributes her recurring nightmare to the day she was taken from her home as a Jewish girl and deported to the Nazi camps. What looks perfectly common at first, a woman in a living room watching television with her cat, in this film gradually turns into an oppressive reality in which the Holocaust is still present every day.
