Mariyam is 20, Dutch, Muslim and a metal singer. And perhaps she is pregnant too. How will she deal with this, and how will she tell her mother?
Twenty-year-old, veiled Mariyam prepares for her performance in a heavy metal club. She tries to hide this from her single mother Sakina, as well as the news she may be pregnant. Sakina only discusses trivial matters with her daughter, like their broken doorbell. Mariyam’s subtle hints about her inner struggles do not get across to her Mum. In this deadlock, Mariyam loses control of the two worlds she always wanted to keep separate: her cultural background, which is in keeping with the conservative, multicultural neighbourhood she lives in, and her love of heavy metal music, which she pursues in the urban nightlife of a predominantly Western culture.
