Self-portrait by filmmaker Lidija Zelović, capturing her and her family’s lives since she moved from Sarajevo to Amsterdam 30 years ago. Alternating between being Lidija and being seen as a stranger, she also holds up a mirror to the Netherlands.
Since 1993, filmmaker Lidija Zelović has been portraying herself and her uprooted family. That year, they were forced to flee their war-torn home in Sarajevo and ended up in the Netherlands. Drawing from her family archive, Zelović looks for an answer to the question every migrant poses: What is 'home'? She shows the joys of daily life – like playing soccer on Sundays or spending holidays 'at home' in Bosnia – but also events in the Netherlands, like political assassinations and the rising social polarisation. In the process, Zelović also pays attention to disruptive social Dutch developments she recognises from her disintegrated native Yugoslavia.
