Adaptation of Leon de Winter's novel in which Felix Hoffman, Dutch diplomat in Prague, grieves for his daughters' death. As a result, he has serious sleeping problems. At night, he gorges himself with food and drink and tries to fathom the propositions of the philosopher Spinoza. Tormented by existential problems, he also gets caught up in a spy case.
