The members of a West Frisian bulb-growing family are expected to show the disposition of the tulips they grow: resistance makes you stronger.
Portrait of a West Frisian family that runs a successful tulip farm. The family bursts with ambition, also in sports. The youngest daughter Irene is an Olympic champion and the eldest son Simon is also considered a great speed-skating talent. So in this area it is a matter of hard work as well, and accepting setbacks. Like their mother, who had a brain haemorrhage eighteen months ago. The doctors would not give a penny for her recovery, but the Schoutens are not discouraged. In a joint effort, they take care of the woman who used to take care of all of them. Every instance of progress is celebrated as a victory, and informal care, entrepreneurship and skating go hand in hand.
