Dilemmas of the parents during the pregnancy of their third child.
In a time when there is an increasing opportunity to have pre-natal tests, the question of how much we want to know becomes increasingly important. Mirjam and Dick are expecting their third child. Their first child was premature and died after two days and their daughter is mentally handicapped. She has Angelman Syndrome, a rare chromosome disorder. As a result, Mirjam is subject to extensive medical care during her pregnancy: one test after another, while these tests also occasionally involve a risk to the unborn child. Thom Verheul confronts the viewer with sensitive subjects such as premature birth, abortion and having a mentally handicapped child.
