After Made in Japan, documentary-maker Puck de Leeuw presents the second film from the three-part series Love beyond Frontiers. This episode is about three Dutch women who fell in love with Senegalese men and, in the face of prejudice and warnings, decided to follow their husbands back home. The film shows how the cultural differences cause cracks in their mixed marriages and how the problems sometimes even lead to an inevitable breakdown. For instance, her husband's polygamy and 'wanting to share everything' irritated ex-model Hanna and financial extravagance of Jeanine's husband made her come back to Holland. Wilma started a new life with the children after it became apparent that her husband was running a second marriage too.
