In this documentary, in the small community of Taos, New Mexico, Cooper’s mother and his two best friends struggle to cope with that big, unanswerable question about his suicide. How can someone just slip through your fingers?
On 29 April 2014, 24-year-old Cooper stepped off the bridge across a deep valley near Taos, New Mexico. Standing at the same bridge, Cooper’s mother and his roommate Bowdy recall how they failed to stop Cooper. Cooper’s friend Robbie saw him as a stronger person. Bowdy and Cooper jointly kicked their habit. ‘He was my best therapy.’ In home movies, we see Cooper himself as a cheerful, provocative boy. Many people in this neighbourhood feel like they are stuck in the mud. But why did Cooper, of all people, opt for the great escape? Against a rural backdrop with skateboards, cows and parties, an intimate documentary unfolds about loss and the search for meaning.
