Documentary based on the book Gold Fever by Gerard Jacobs. The film sketches a picture of the cruel story of Kolyma, the area where enormous gold reserves were found in the twenties and where twenty years later the worst camps of the Gulag Archipelago were located. Millions of people lived under appalling conditions in the Siberian camps, subject to a completely arbitrary regime. Four survivors and several people who volunteered -through idealism or opportunism- to go to the Kolyma tell their stories in Gold. However different their personal stories, they are all imbued by a fundamental and often suppressed sorrow, disappointment, impossible ideals, broken promises and unfulfilled dreams.
