The film, part of the project Gedichten uit zee, starts at nightfall. Traffic races past in quickened images. A woman starts reciting a poem. In pitch-darkness, a ship approaches the lock and proceeds to set out to sea. How long does a night last? Does the spectator also long for dawn, which at long last is reflected in the stern wave of the ship?
