Frans Zwartjes, filmmaker

Director: Mat van Hensbergen
Portrait of the remarkable filmmaker Frans Zwartjes.
Frans Zwartjes (1927) is a filmmaker, but he started his career as a violinist and artist. His very own style of filming, where he liked to cut the films on the set, has given him international renown. The documentary Frans Zwartjes, filmmaker is largely about this idiosyncratic style and his love for art and music. He has regularly worked with Lodewijk de Boer and artist Moniek Toebosch since the sixties and with them he looks at fragments from his films Spare Bedroom and Pentimento and he provides a commentary on the importance of picture, music and editing in film. Zwartjes is also shown as a composer of experimental music.
