Short documentary about a ferryman who crosses the Volga back and forth in his wooden ferry under his own steam.
Short documentary about a ferryman who crosses the Volga back and forth in his wooden ferry under his own steam. Sixteen years ago he took over his work from his father who had been ferryman since the war. While the camera does not leave the immediate vicinity of the ferry, the film also tells us a lot about a local village: the villagers who use the ferry often take advantage of the crossing for a chat with the ferryman. Older villagers sometimes ride back and forth several times and tell the ferryman about old times. The documentary shows how the village used to be. Using only registration, the documentary provides a glimpse of a remote Russian village.
