With this adaptation of Godfried Bomans' folk-tale from 1941, a long-cherished dream was fulfilled for ad filmmaker Van Liempd. Interspersed with computer animation, his debut feature film presents the equally debuting Jasper Oldenhof as the ten-year-old muser Eric Pinksterblom, who has trouble preparing a school talk on insects. He is helped by his grandfather, who one night rakes out an old hand book on insects, which includes a picture of Wollewei. An adventurous night ensues, in which Eric finds himself in the fairy-like setting of Wollewei. Among the grass-stalks, he meets a cheerful bumblebee, an inconfident mosquito and two enamoured ladybirds. Impressed by this strange biped that seems to know everything about their habits, the insects take Eric's advice. Until things go wrong. That night, Eric learns a lesson about insects and people.
