The boundaries between music, theatre and virtual reality become blurred in this mixed reality world, where virtual and physical walls converge and an elderly woman takes us in tow across time. Her time.

With Eight, Michel van der Aa takes the visitor on a journey that is a life story in reverse chronological order. The visitor is successively introduced to a woman around 70 years old, her 35-year-old version and finally in the form of an eight-year-old girl. You not only follow her through this virtual reality world, but you interact with her and the installation itself. Her memories are found spread across the flexible walls, which can be activated through interactive hieroglyphs. When you touch a character, you unlock the matching memory. The physical and virtual corridors you walk down converge in an endless space.

Eight had its world première at the Holland Festival in June 2019 and is presented at Aix-en-Provence, Beijing, Hannover, Helsinki and Adelaide.
