Photographer Çiğdem Yüksel begins her most personal project so far: visualising the memories of her deceased grandmother and others, who were the first Turkish women in the Netherlands. An unseen generation.
In Droombeeld, filmmaker Rosa Ruth Boesten follows the award-winning photographer Çiğdem Yüksel while she is working on her multimedia project If Only You Knew. Through the stories and portraits of the first generation of Turkish women in the Netherlands, Yüksel tries to not only break through the impact of biased images, but also reconstruct the life of her grandmother who emigrated to the Netherlands in the 1960s and died at a young age. Returning to IJmuiden, the place where her grandma arrived in the Netherlands, Yüksel looks for family memories while also reflecting on her own place in Dutch society.
