Are we doomed to repeat the same mistakes across generations? Perhaps so, when they go unspoken. That's why documentary filmmaker Albert Kuhn delved into the past of his silent, enigmatic German father.
Filmmaker Albert Kuhn's father is a gruff man. He moved from Germany to Barcelona in the 1970s but refuses to talk about the past. In this essay film, debut director Kuhn delves into his family history, searching for what his father was running from and would rather have buried in silence. Through photographs, home videos and archival material, the filmmaker unravels an ideological struggle that echoes through the generations. It is precisely the gaps in the archive, and the things we'd rather not see, that stand as the silent witnesses here.
