In Auschwitz, Eduard Wirths was involved in medical experiments and selections. Based on interviews with survivors and people from his immediate environment, the documentary tries to answer the question how a doctor could commit these atrocities. Wirths’ father, wife and children talk about their memories of him and the camp and about Wirths’ eventual suicide. Fellow-villagers and a friend know his reputation and former colleagues explain the circumstances in which Wirths carried out these experiments.
