Poetic film composition about inhabitants of the post-war new town of Ommoord, on the outskirts of Rotterdam. The film, put together from amateur footage, interviews and archive material, sketches a picture of a generation that wanted to forget the past as quickly as possible by looking to the future filled with optimism. The makers have ordered the material with human happiness as their point of departure. In thirteen chapters, six Rotterdam families combine their memories and feelings to tell their stories of trials and tribulations in the Ommoord district. They all wanted to be happy in spite of everything, past and present.
