Filmmaker Joris Koptod Nioky confronts his mother with the past by making a documentary on her. However, his portrait of her upsets her so much she tries to ban his film.
Filmmaker Joris Koptod Nioky moves in with his mother Rian (71) to have her reflect on motherhood. They each have a different idea of who she was as a mother. While Covid erupts inthe Netherlands, Rian tells about her childhood, her violent father, the commune she founded with another couple in the 1970s and the complex family situation this caused. Joris uses his film to confront Rian with the traumas of the past, but, seeing the provisional cut, she does not recognise herself in it at all.
